Tech 101 from Symmetry Electronics: What Is Thread?
Thread is an IPv6-based, closed-documentation, royalty-free[networking protocol for IoT smart home automation devices. Thread works on a local wireless mesh network and was designed to connect and control products in the home.
Most of today’s technologies rely on a single device to communicate with products around the home. If that device fails, then the whole network goes down. Since many devices in the home need to stay connected 24/7, they end up draining battery life quickly. Today’s technologies can also be challenging to set up.
Designed to be user-friendly, support a wide variety of products for the home and be energy efficient, Thread is being used in appliances, access and climate control, energy management, lighting, safety, and security.
