Trick out Your Thor Costume this Halloween with this Clever Replica of Thor’s Hammer

The story goes that only Thor can pick up his legendary hammer, called the Mjolnir. If you want to add some flair to your costume this Halloween, or just show off a neat party trick, the DIY hero in the video below can help you build a hammer only you can lift.

The heavy lifting in this project is done through electromagnets. The big secret, though is a subtle fingerprint reader strategically placed in the handle. An Arduino Mini and a battery pack control and power the show. Place the hammer on a metallic surface, and only the person with the authorized fingerprint can release the electromagnets and lift the hammer.
