This week’s Wireless Wednesday dev kit pick is the new Thing:52 from Nordic Semiconductor. It's an easy to use IoT development platform for the nRF52832 wireless SoC.

The Nordic Thingy:52™ is an easy to use development platform for IoT, designed to enable people who want to develop IoT product prototypes and demos without building HW or writing FW. The Nordic Thingy:52 is built around the nRF52832 Bluetooth SoC and is connected to several sensors on the board. The functionality of the sensors e.q., On/OFF, sampling rate, etc can be configured over-the-air via a Bluetooth API. Meaning that it is possible to create demos and prototypes without actually programming the device.

In addition to sensors, the Nordic Thingy:52 also have built-in microphone and speaker to support audio features. That makes it possible to send audio from the device to the app and from the app to the Thingy:52.

The Nordic Thingy:52 comes pre-programed and all needed is to download the Nordic Thingy:52 app to you phone to get started. The app is available for both iOS and Android. It also comes with support for the IF This Then That (IFTTT) cloud services making it easy to interact to service and applications supporting IFTTT e.q., Philips Hue, Facebook, Gmail etc.

If you want to write FW on the Nordic Thingy:52, it is possible to connect a debugger and write your own firmware.
